BOOKS THRU BARS The Luminist League provides free books for inmates of jails and prisons through our “Books Thru Bars” project. Books are collected and sorted by volunteers and packages of books are mailed to prisoners on request. Prisoners may send requests in writing to LUMINIST PUBLICATIONS, P.O. BOX 35091, SYRACUSE NY 13235. Requests should include prisoners’ full address, including prison ID number, and any relevant package room regulations at their institutions. We cannot usually fill requests for specific titles. Requests should describe the type of books desired as precisely as possible, and we will select a package of titles that match the request as closely as possible from available stock. Donations are needed to keep this service going.
Money is always needed for postage. Donations of funds may be made with
the “PayPal” link below. If you prefer to send a donation by postal
mail, please make remittance payable to “LUMINIST PUBLICATIONS” and earmark
it for “Books Thru Bars.” US cash and postage stamps may be mailed
but please make sure nothing is visible through the envelope (wrap it in
a couple of sheets of paper). All items may be mailed c/o our post

Books for the project are collected locally in the
Syracuse, New York area. Email us to arrange pick-up and drop-off
locations. Books may also be mailed to the post office box.
