Amazing Stories was the first of the U.S. science fiction magazines. The first issue appeared in 1926, and the last in 2006. During its lifetime the magazine appeared in a variety of formats, including “bedsheet” size (like the old Life and Look magazines), “pulp” size (about 7" X 10"), “digest” size (about 5½" X 7½"), and standard glossy magazine size (like Time and Newsweek). Original publisher Hugo Gernsback is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the science fiction genre.
